Introducing Marsden Point with new DLC | Manukau Ranges Part 7.0 | #citiesskylines2

Bridges and Ports DLC gets a work out with functional port! I also prattle Urban Geography concepts

The Bridges and Ports DLC (along with the patch) is out from ‪Colossal Order and it time to get port building in Manukau Ranges! However, I engage in a quick urban geography review as the new game simulation engine has changed on how the zones and people will interact (welcome to Spatial Planning).

While CO could have framed the language better about people mobility, the fact I got a full circle in urban mobility trends proved interesting enough. That is I got ‘White Flight’ out of the City Centre as the more affluent who had mobility moved to the lower density outer suburbs did so. This left the Working Class, and students who are less affluent and also less mobile in my City Centre. However, for the full circle to occur gentrification needs to occur. And ironically it is as those more affluent returned from the out suburbs back to the City Centre, forcing the working class out in the suburbs and consequently stuck with those longer commutes (as their job were not as mobile unless they decided to change employment into the industrial complexes).

If you are worried about the working class in the City Centre being booted out due to gentrification you need not worry. Having anticipating it I have made sure “Low Rent” housing has been placed in the City Centre, and the immediate residential areas that ring the City Centre. All are on or within walking catchment of a transit service as well. Once the Bikes DLC comes through I will ensure that bike accessibility is set up as well for them (and everyone else).

Now, if you want to skip me prattling on about White Flight and Gentrification to get straight into Marsden Point port action head to 00:16:55 timestamp in the video!

We talk urban geography, but we are here for the brand new port!

Continued development of Marsden Point (7.1 and 7.2)

As you can see with Marsden Point, the port is a bit bare bones right now and it should not exactly have grass and trees in the middle of it. I do have some decals and props that I have downloaded and will do some detailing in 7.1. Also in 7.1 I will establish that second connection which includes a brand new double deck suspension bridge complete with road and rail to allow connections to Wiri (thus saving a very long winding route via the City Centre for cargo trains).

As the Bridges and Ports DLC allows you to use the Port assets inland as well, you can create functioning inland ports as well as those on waterways. So in 7.2 I will be replacing some of the old vanilla cargo stations, and turn them into inland ports to better serve the industrial complexes and the city. The City Centre Cargo Terminal will remain as is, but better connected to Marsden Point through the new road/rail bridge that will be running in 7.1!
