Industry powers the city while I need 13,000 new working residents for Waikato

The Drill Baby Drill MAGA and Shane Jones bravado aside, resources and subsequent industry are often the primary reason cities are founded, live, and sometimes die (if the resource is depleted or deindustrialisation went horridly wrong and urban renewal did not happen (New York City got close in the 80s). Your communication and supply lines (infrastructure) is what then connects that resource to the industry, the city and out to the wider world. So with that we come to 5.1 where I work on the first of the four major resource industries – oil!

5.1 – Establishing Taranaki, and Howick

Industry is the backbone of a city. With Waikato rapidly expanding and rich with resources it is time to fire up the wheels of industry and DRILL, DRILL, and oh turn them into value added products! In 5.1 I establish the Taranaki Oil fields and supporting industry. Howick is also created using mainly the China urban set. I also do a bit of a side track up at Waikato Grove checking out some Dutch housing, while riding the bus through Howick giving some urban commentary of the suburb!

It is action stations in Waikato, where everyone wants to be!

As for the 13,000 working residents needing to support our industries? I better get going through the 5.X series or our Primary and Manufacturing Sectors are going to be idling from lack of workers!

Taranaki. You can see the oi fields, oil terminal for offshore platforms, and the central oil refinery, chemical plant, and supporting energy infrastructure. A vehicle factory was also placed here.
